Rembrandt, who refused to pander to a style of painting that would flatter clients, died in poverty, by which time most of his property had been auctioned off. Although he left no inheritance, he did leave a rich heritage that still amazes the world. In a tribute to the great artist, Sberbank, Russia’s oldest and largest bank, displayed his legacy in the exhibition ‘The Age of Rembrandt and Vermeer’.
