The Grand Opening was designed to convey the musical diversity and quality of the Elbphilharmonie and to generate excitement about the new concert hall since the Elbphilharmonie has had a very controversial past: construction delays and cost increases had led to skepticism and rejection. The Grand Opening invited everybody to be part of the event and made clear that Hamburg’s new concert hall is truly for everybody thereby winning over the hearts of the public.
