The idea of showing food as medieval torture instruments call for a specific type of technique. And the choice here fell to sgraffito, a form of direct engraving, which consists of putting down a preliminary surface, covering it with another, and then scratching the superficial layer away. A well-known Italian artist and sgraffito specialist, Rocco Lombardi, was commissioned for the task. The result was visually rich handmade illustrations
