Join us as we delve into the insights of Morta Vileikytė, the talented Lithuaninan young graphic designer, as she shares her perspective on the last year’s edition of the High Potentials programme from the participant’s lens.
I am Morta, a third-year industrial design student at Vilnius Academy of Arts. Before applying to participate in the High Potentials Programme I wasn’t sure what was my direction, or where I wanted to move forward, but after two days full of meetings with amazing and unique other young creators I was completely sure – I want to create impossible things, it’s obvious that everything is possible (at least after High Potentials event)
After the presentation, I wasn’t sure if at least one of the agencies would invite me to an interview, but sometimes the biggest surprise happens when you don’t even expect it. Those two interviews gave me a lot of courage to start thinking about my own brand, and not to be afraid to push myself by sending portfolios to different agencies and representing myself out loud. After this event, I opened one more exhibition, won two industrial design competitions and now started working as an industrial design freelancer. Hope it’s not the end, only the very beginning!
The most exciting moment for me was when I understood that I am not the only one who sees the world and thinks differently than others. It gave me a lot of motivation to keep moving and just feel free around others.
I have learned that there is no time to be shy and wait, if you feel like doing something, just do it now.
Don’t hesitate! I’ve been in the same situation, questioning whether it’s worth it or if I should wait until next year. The biggest mistake you can make is choosing to delay and wait for someone to notice you. Instead, be proactive, make yourself noticeable, and demonstrate what you’re capable of.
