Queer Lisboa, Portugal’s queer film festival has been held in Lisbon since 1997. In the 2019 edition, Queer Lisboa's tongue-in-cheek spot promoting the festival’s twenty-third year presented a litany of slang terms for LGBTQ people. Like “queer”, many of these words, initially used as slurs by straight people, have been reclaimed as terms of defiance by the LGBTQ community and used to express particular aspects of their identity.
