The Kotimaista brand is targeted at the domestic “Finnish food lovers”, and thanks to its affordability, everyone can buy them. Still, Kotimaista had received poor grades for quality and taste, as well as both usage rate and customer awareness were considerably lower than its competitors. We realised that distinguishing from the visual noise of a store is only possible by simplifying the packaging design, while preserving the signals important to the consumer.
