Germany has a 21% gender pay gap, the second largest in Europe. To bring this inequality to public attention, BVG launched the ‘Women’s Ticket’ - the world’s first public transport ticket to highlight the gender pay gap. On ‘Equal Pay Day’, the ticket was available from over 600 machines across Berlin and allowed women to travel for 21% less. The ticket payment receipt included a recruitment message offering women a job at BVG with guaranteed equal pay for equal work.
