Many luxury goods in Germany are taxed with the reduced rate of only 7 per cent while tampons were taxed with 19 per cent. The Female Company outsmarted the sexist law – with the law itself: Books are taxed at 7 per cent. Therefore, tampons were sold hidden inside a book to avoid the sexist tax. A broad alliance of influencers, journalists, pharmacies and politicians supported these claims. With success! On November 7, 2019, Germany abolished the tampon tax.
