The Volkstheater faces declining public interest and falling tickets sales. To promote “The Merovingians or The Total Family”, a tale of an angry citizen who alleviates his aggression by smashing objects, Vienna was invited to a public anger room where anyone could smash stuff. ‘Punch pad’ posters, promotion guys in punchbag costumes and more promoted this public anger therapy. With over 7 million impressions, over €250k in PR and a sold-out premiere, it was a smashing success.
