Austrian skier Hermann Maier dominated the alpine ski racing events at Nagano the Winter Olympics until the giant slalom on Friday the 13th of February 1998, when Maier, had a dramatic crash after flying 40 metres. However, only 3 days later, he miraculously won Olympic Gold. Thus, the ‘Herminator’ was born. Dancer Manaho Shimokawa performed an interpretation of Maier’s famous crash, which was photographed by Mark Glassner for a magazine cover story about ‘failure’.
