For our diploma project at the University of applied Arts Vienna, we couldn’t think of a topic even after pondering for ages. With each passing day, deadlines drew closer and stress and time pressure grew. At some point, time was slipping through our fingers so quickly that we decided to face our enemy – stress and time racing by – in our diploma project out of sheer hecticness and chaos.rn”Moment Mal” deals with the subjective perception of time. Due to an increasingly fast-paced and stressful everyday life, the appreciation and conscious experience of time is in danger of being lost. However, our perception of time can be both accelerated and decelerated with the help of emotions and events. The more attention we pay to the passing of time, the slower it tends to pass. In order to make the time that seems to run through our fingers perceptible, we designed a modular candle system that is intended to help us perceive time better, organise it more sensibly and use it more effectively. With the help of the candle system, we aim to sharpen our sense of how to use time more thoughtfully, so that tedious and stressful tasks can be completed with discipline and joyful experiences can be savoured to the full.
