Death is a topic often avoided, but my project, Last Words. Death Planner, aims to change that perception. This funeral service does not settle for boring protocols. Instead, it offers people the opportunity to customize their own funerals. The concept revolves around the idea that death is just another part of life, and it doesn’t have to be a drama.
Here, you can design your own coffin, select the music you want to be played at your farewell, and laugh at monotonous funeral traditions. Through an online platform, users can personalize their funerals up to 99%. From choosing the music to how to inform others of their passing, every detail can be tailored to the deceased’s personality. This invites a more human and less rigid approach to death.
The project also employs dark humor and witty phrases to make each client feel comfortable discussing their own goodbye. The pieces I have created, from catalogs of coffins designed with artificial intelligence to business cards that invite laughter, reflect the philosophy that death does not have to be a serious topic.
Last Words. Death Planner is an invitation to reflect on our own mortality without fear. After all, we are all on this journey together, so why not make our final farewell as unique as we are? This project challenges societal norms surrounding death, encouraging individuals to embrace their mortality with a smile instead of fear. By breaking down barriers and reimagining the funeral experience, we can transform how we view the end of life, making it a celebration rather than a somber occasion.
