The painting “The Adoration of the Magi”, a Portuguese masterpiece in the hands of a private collector was at risk of being sold in an auction and taken abroad. How could the money (600.000€) to buy the painting be raised in order to keep it in Portugal? The painting was divided into 10 million digital pixels (approximate Portuguese population) and people were invited to “sponsor a pixel” for the symbolic price of 6 cents a pixel.
