For the first time the Olympic and Paralympic games took place without spectators.nThe DOSB was looking for a way to connect their athletes with the fans back home. Under the motto: “Being there without being there.” the Tokyo Tree was created. Located in the Olympic Village the digital tree delivered fans messages to the athletes via mini printers. Over 20,000 messages reached the athletes. They in turn used the messages for interactions in their social media channels.
